Youth Delegates giving a speech at UN HQ in Vienna

January 14-16, 2015, Vienna, Austria. Ukrainian Youth Delegates participated in the Annual Conference organized by ACUNS (Academic Council on the United Nations System) at UN HQ in Vienna by giving a speech on the topic “Youth as a Priority in Post-2015 Development Agenda: Example of Ukraine”.
The issues highlighted in the Delegates’ speech touched upon the role of young people in Ukraine as a driving force in bringing positive changes in the society: volunteering culture in Ukraine, youth empowerment and youth involvement in decision-making processes on the national and international levels. Ukraine demonstrated unprecedented civil society activation that was completely driven by youth in winter 2014. Ukrainian Youth Delegate Program is aimed at promoting youth activism and participation both within local communities in Ukraine and internationally. Youth Delegates expressed their strong belief that comprehensive mechanisms of youth participation in the government and in the international organizations will lead to a more prosperous, peaceful and sustainable world for everyone.
Youth issues form an important part of discussions on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the general title “On Lessons Learned from the Millennium Development Goals: Perspectives for the Post-2015 Development Agenda” in the UN system. SDGs, which are to be adopted during the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York this fall, have already drawn significant attention of international community and experts and provoked a number of debates regarding UN priorities for the next fifteen years.
